The 5 Faves

We can start with is sure to be a favorite for most people – cocoa powder. Yes, there is yet another reason to consume chocolate in one of its many flavored forms.
Recent studies have shown that using cocoa powder will result in a short term reduction of blood pressure, enough to keep your healthy and not so much as to drop it to dangerous levels. What more could you ask for?

A standard and well-known food is yogurt, healthy for many reasons.
But when it comes to high blood pressure, it turns out that the probiotics present in yogurt have a positive effect on regulating blood pressure levels.
The science behind it is that the probiotics reduce the amount of lipids and cholesterol in the body. But the food has not yet made it to the point of being a prescription for high blood pressure.

On the preventative side, there are blueberries.
According to doctors, a cup of blueberries eaten every day will act to prevent hypertension and prehypertension as you get older.
But this bit of news is targeted mainly at women, as the study was done on post-menopausal women. Sorry guys.

Beetroot Juice

Here is one recommended by the American Heart Association (AMA) – beetroot juice.
Though a familiar food on the list of high blood pressure reducing foods, the AMA published in its own magazine that beetroot juice can reduce blood pressure levels by as much as 10 percent.
Larger studies need to be performed before any final conclusions are drawn.

Finally, there is the banana. The reason bananas are an important food is because of the high amount of potassium present.
Potassium and sodium work to offset one another in the body, so whenever levels of sodium get too high, eating a banana will help reduce those levels and reduce the risk of high blood pressure. Simple, but you already knew that, right?
